YEREVAN. – At the meeting that was convened last September, opposition Heritage Party Chairman and ex-Foreign Minister Raffi Hovannisian had informed Heritage’s board members that he wished to quit politics and rest, reported Zhamanak (Time) newspaper of the Republic of Armenia (RA).

“According to our information, this wish of Raffi Hovannisian continues to remain viable. It is no coincidence that he is in the 11th place [on the proportional representation list] of the ORO bloc [for the forthcoming parliamentary election in the country], [and] which is not considered [a parliament] passing [position] in any way.

“According to our information, Raffi Hovannisian has not only decided to leave politics, but he intends to restore his American citizenship in the future, [and] which he had renounced in 1991. However, he was granted RA citizenship in 2001.

“Raffi Hovannisian was born in the USA, and by law, he will not have any difficulty restoring [his US] citizenship,” wrote Zhamanak.
