YEREVAN. – In all likelihood, the entire retail sector of Armenia will soon work with cash registers (CRs), according to Irates (Realistic) newspaper.

“The government aims to completely cover this sector with the CRs, [but] for which [Armenian] drams equivalent to 6.5 million [US] dollars are needed.

“Does this investor exist? Or, by what means will the 6.5-million-dollar project be implemented? In this case, the answer is known: loan facilities.

“At this moment, two people—the finance minister and the SRC [State Revenue Committee] chairman—probably know under what terms this loan will be given.

“SRC Chairman Vardan Harutyunyan assured, during yesterday’s [Cabinet] session of the government, that they are working with the Ministry of Finance, and they will submit a [respective] proposal to the Prime Minister, in one or two days.

“Fight against shadow [economy] is at the basis of the process of covering the retail sector [of Armenia] with the CR,” wrote Irates.
