Statement by RA President Serzh Sargsyan that Yerevan honors its pledges and international commitments on Armenia-Turkey relations engender at least bewilderment: what commitments they mean when authorities repeatedly state that Armenia is an initiator of Armenia-Turkey dialogue, Heritage faction leader Stepan Safaryan wonders.

“If Armenia-Turkey dialogue is a part of Armenia’s international commitments, it’d be good to know what other commitments the republic assumed to international community,” Safaryan said at the NA briefing. Speaking of Erdogan-Obama meeting, he said that Washington will give the go-ahead for further protraction of the Protocols’ ratification as well as whip up of Karabakh conflict settlement. “The trouble is that Washington came to Ankara’s terms,” Safaryan concluded.

Orinats Yerkir party representative Khachatour Harutunyan called Armenians to dismiss Erdogan’s statements. “Eventually, RA President responded accurately to these statements, underlining that gave directions to all ministate institutions to draft amendments to legislation on signing, ratification and declaration of international treaties invalid,” stated MP.

Prosperous Armenia Party representative Naira Zohrabyan shares this opinion, emphasizing that statements by Turkish top officials prove the country’s intention to protract Protocols’ ratification as long as possible.

However, Prosperous Armenia faction secretary Aram Safaryan expressed hope that Turkey will ratify the Protocols without preconditions.
