The Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia (RA) have not yet fully switched to their new uniform. And judging by the Ministry of Defense’s (MoD) explanation in response to a request from Sputnik Armenia, it is not yet clear when the army uniform will be changed once and for all.
Photos and videos regularly publicized by the MoD show that the Chief of the General Staff and several other high-ranking officers are wearing the new uniform, while others are still wearing the old uniform. In this regard, we had asked when the MoD leadership will change the uniform of the entire personnel, taking into account that this transition was planned back in 2024.
“The process of introducing uniforms is generally conditioned by the results of the currently ongoing military testing, study of patterns (structure), as well as their technical characteristics. Therefore, the experimental imported uniforms have been provided to servicepersons of various units of the RA Armed Forces, including conscripts, as well as senior officer corps,” the MoD replied.
Also, it assured that the process of providing all Armenian army personnel with new uniforms is ongoing, and they will inform about the dates for the full introduction of new samples when the information on these dates is final and clear.
Back in 2023, Defense Minister Suren Papikyan had announced in parliament that a process of changing uniforms had been initiated in the Armenian army, and the respective work was being carried out with international partners. Also, he had announced that there was an objective to complete by the end of 2024 the process of introducing a new military uniform that meets NATO standards. And at the end of 2025, the first batch of new collections sewn by the American Milliken & Company was shown.
