At least four people were killed and 10 others were injured in an explosion at a weapons depot in northwestern Syria, SANA news agency reports. The blast occurred in Sarmada town of Idlib Governorate. The cause of the incident has not yet been confirmed.

According to SANA, the foresaid depot was storing weapons and ammunition left over from the uprising and civil war in Syria between 2011 and 2024. Syrian Civil Defense rescue workers and Syrian Red Crescent workers are continuing to search for people trapped under the rubble.

An AP photographer at the scene said dead bodies were already being pulled out. After the explosion, a column of black smoke rose from the scene, and the sounds of several successive explosions can also be heard in the videos.
