Rome Pope Benedict XVI, turned 82 recently, was taken to the hospital of Italian Aoste today. He was here on vacation, the “Novosti” news agency informs, referring to the source in the hospital.

According to Italian mass media, this morning the Pontiff slipped and fell in the bathroom in his chalet in Alps.

As La Stampa daily website informs, Pope injured his ankle and wrist and will be operated shortly.

However, director of the Vatican Press Office Federico Lombardi told journalists, that “the matter is not that serious”. Pope feels well and the doctors did not express any concern on the accident, ITAR TASS reports.

Pope Benedict XVI went on vacation on July 13 to the North-Italian Valley d’Aoste region, with a magnificent view to the snowy Mount Blanc.

Pope planned to meet twice the local parishioners at the Angelus Domini service during the vacation.
