Azerbaijani Ambassador to U.S. Yasar Aliyev presented the protest note by Azerbaijan Foreign Ministry to the U.S. Department of State in connection with U.S. Congress adoption of draft law on rendering $8m financial assistance to Nagorno-Karabakh.

The note says: “Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan among 7 other adjacent regions are under illegal occupation of Armenia and the implementation of any program and activities by the U.S. government in Nagorno-Karabakh or other occupied Azerbaijani territories without corresponding preliminary consultation with Azerbaijan conflicts with the official stance of the U.S. on support of Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as its internationally recognized borders”, APA informs referring to the Azerbaijani Embassy in U.S.

Thereupon, Azerbaijani side called U.S. government to furnish the information on the matter. It was stated that running of the programs without relevant permits by Azerbaijan will be considered “the U.S. support to separatist regime” and will affect negatively on the efforts in conflict resolution as well as damage the U.S authority of the “even-handed mediator” as OSCE MG Co-Chair.
