Kazakhstan intends to contribute to the settlement of “protracted conflicts” in Caucasus, OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Kazakh Secretary of State and Foreign Minister Kanat Saudabayev said at the Jan. 14 press conference in OSCE Permanent Council in Vienna, KazTAG agency reports.

According to him, Kazakhstan has additional resource for the settlement of these conflicts. It is conditioned primarily by the fact that Kazakhstan is well aware of these conflicts’ history and empathizes conflicting parties.

He also pointed out Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev’s respected authority and confidence with all parties to the conflict.

As for the fear that Kazakhstan’s involvement in Abkhazian, South Ossetian and Afghan conflict settlements will affect its relations with Russia, Saudabayev outlined he does not reckon that any country, including Russia is against “these conflicts to be settled by adoption of the conflicting parties in favor and wellbeing of the nations involved.”
