Mehmet Ali Agca (Turkish by origin) who attempted to kill Pope John Paul II in 1981 was released January 18 after 30 years’ imprisonment.

He will be taken to a military facility and then to a hospital. According to 2006 report, Mehmet Ali Agca suffered from “severe anti-social personality disorder”, Irish breakingnews.ie website reports, referring to his lawyer Gokay Gultekin.

After leaving jail, Agca declared himself the Messiah and proclaimed the end of the world.

Agca spent 19 years in prison in Italy. In 1983 John Paul II met with him in prison and announced he forgave him. In 2000 the criminal was extradited to Turkey.
