YEREVAN.- Fifty-nine Armenian cheese producers will be fined for E. coli found in “Chanakh” cheese, head of food safety inspection Abraham Bakhchagulyan told reporters on Thursday.  

The list of defaulters who will have to pay about a $1,100 fine will be published in the near future.

As a result of inspection, 5,540 kilos of already stale “Chanakh” cheese was confiscated. Eighteen business entities were instructed to suspend cheese production. The production can be resumed after state inspection gives the go-ahead.

Bakhchagulyan said the ban only applies to “Chanakh” cheese, other goods can be produced without restriction.
