YEREVAN. – Yerevan office of the Federal Migration Service of the Russian Federation (RF) suspended the acceptance of documents from those citizens of Armenia who wish to move and permanently settle in Russia along the lines of Russia’s “Compatriots” program, the BBC reported adding that the citizens were advised at the office to wait until January 10, 2013, Haykakan Zhamanak daily reports.      

“BBC notes that even though Armenia’s authorities are against the program and PM Tigran Sargsyan considered the activities of that office in Armenia as unacceptable, since it contributes to emigration, the RF authorities have continued the program. 

So, it is assumed that the suspension of accepting documents has other reasons and it is temporary, [and] therefore it is hardly connected with the complaints by Armenia’s authorities,” Haykakan Zhamanak writes.
