NKR independence recognition is a shortcut to Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement that will normalize the peace process. Heritage party MP Vardan Khachatryan stated on July 22.

Concerning the Madrid document, the MP stated that among all principles only one is realistic, that is “return of territories to Azerbaijan control and those internally displaced to their former places of residence.” He supposes there are no regulations advantageous for Armenia in contrast to pro-Azerbaijani ones. A pro-Armenian principle can be the specification of precise date and terms of referendum in Karabakh, which is not there. “This might cause serious problems,” he said.

Regarding the possibility of armed conflict, Khachatryan outlined that Azerbaijan is ready for hostility: “We should be vigilant in anticipating a negative turn. All states and statehoods were established through wars,” he concluded, adding Armenia is closer to war than peace.
