Armenia-Turkey reconciliation has slowed down and stopped because of the Turkish side, Director of the Armenian Center for National and International Studies Richard Giragosian told journalists February 4.
According to him, the process faces challenges due to Turkey. Turkey was severely critical of the RA Constitutional Court’s judgment. It is not a new strategy. It was launched in Zurich, when the Turkish side delayed the signing ceremony of the protocols thereby testing Armenia and the international community, Giragosian said. The present criticism of the RA Constitutional Court’s verdict is continuation of this process, the expert said. He added that Turkey tries to find a political reason to stand aside, simultaneously laying the blame on Armenia.
According to Giragosian, this strategy failed, as Washington and Moscow reminded Turkey that it should ratify the Protocols. The international community has expectations of Turkey not of Armenia. Presently Turkey attempts to find an artificial political reason. It will last till April 23, the expert concluded.
