The use of Georgian training base and military infrastructure for conduction of peacekeeping operation in Afghanistan will be discussed at the informal meeting of NATO Defense Ministers in Istanbul, February 5.

NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen will take the chair. Georgian Defense Minister Bacho Akhalaia will present information on Georgia’s participation in peacemaking mission in Afghanistan.

According to him, Georgia will once again offer NATO its air, transport and railroad infrastructures for military cargo transit.

As NEWS.am reported earlier, January 29, Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili offered U.S. to use Georgian territory and transport infrastructure as a transfer station for supplying military cargo to Afghanistan.

Saakashvili underlined that Georgia is ready to open up opportunities for Western warships to use Black Sea ports and allow military transport aircrafts to land in local airports for refueling.

Currently, the main supply route of U.S. lies through Pakistan, Russia and Central Asia.
