YEREVAN. – Armenian presidential candidate Andreas Ghukasyan, who is on a hunger strike for already ten days, will continue it until the end of the presidential vote on February 18. Ghukasyan himself informed this to news reporters on Thursday.  

He added that the conditions of his hunger strike were fairly difficult, due to the adverse weather conditions in the past several days, but he and former political prisoner Shant Harutyunyan—who joined, on Monday, Ghukasyan’s hunger strike—“have gone through those days.”

“Shant Harutyunyan’s support had great significance for me,” the presidential nominee stated.

As Armenian News-NEWS.am informed earlier, Andreas Ghukasyan is on a hunger strike ever since January 21, and he demands that the ruling Republican Party presidential candidate, incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan withdraw from the presidential race. Another presidential hopeful, namely, opposition National Self-Determination Union Chairman Paruyr Hayrikyan, likewise joined Ghukasyan on January 25 for a three-day hunger strike.
