Azerbaijan is interested in adoption of updated version of Madrid Principles, Azerbaijani FM Elmar Mammadyarov said at the joint press conference with OSCE Chairman-in-Office Kanat Saudabayev after meeting in Baku.
“I have recently talked to Russian FM Sergey Lavrov and he said that Armenian side has not submitted its proposals on not agreed provisions of the basic principles yet,” stated Mammadyarov.
According to him, Azerbaijan’s stance is clear, the country sees Karabakh's status within Azerbaijan on condition of joint residence of Armenian and Azerbaijani communities.
“Azerbaijan is ready to continue the talks and expects confirmation of updated Madrid principles that will give impetus to the drafting of large and comprehensive peace treaty,” Mammadyarov emphasized.
Azerbaijani FM stressed that Baku is interested in adoption of new version of Madrid Principles, “If the process backpedals, a question will raise: What's next? And all negotiating parties should ask themselves about this.”
