In October 2009 Georgian lessons on TV for Azerbaijani population will launch, Azerbaijani paper “Zerkalo” reports referring to Internews-Georgia Foundation.
Georgian “Marneuli-TV” Company, partially covering Kvemo-Kartli region mostly populated by ethnic Azerbaijanis, will start a new project.

“10-12 people will participate in the program conducted by Linguistics Institute experts. In Soviet times, French lessons were broadcasted by state channels,” said Head of Marneuli-TV Shalva Shubladze.

He pointed out that Azerbaijani population is eager to learn the language: “As the region’s ethnic Azerbaijanis do not speak Georgian, they have communication problems with Georgians. The situation is even worse with the youth as they do not speak Russian either.”
