Feb. 26, RA Permanent representative to UN Karen Nazaryan handed a cheque of $100.000 to the UN Under-Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator John Holmes as aid to Haiti earthquake victims allocated by RA Government.

He emphasized that under the governmental decision, the amount will be allotted to the construction of lodges, food and drugs. Nazaryan maintained that Armenia renders financial aid despite the crisis, as was hardly hit by the quake in 1988. Holmes highly assessed Armenia’s assistance to Haiti and as a UN Central Emergency Response fund donor-country. At Holmes’ request Nazaryan presented RA Government’s activities in disaster area.

The devastating earthquake hit Haiti on February 12, the strongest shock of 7 magnitude lasted for 40 seconds, followed by several other aftershocks.
