U.S. Geological Survey said the epicenter of the earth shock was 120 km north-west of the city of Talca, at the depth of 35 kilometers.

No information on victims and casualties is available.

Meanwhile, on February 28, the Chilean President Michelle Bachelet confirmed the deaths of 708 people. Many more have been reported missing. United Nations responded to the earthquake and sent messages of condolence to the government and people of Chile over the loss of lives and property.

According to U.S. Geological Survey, the earthquake epicenter was 100km north-east of Concepcion city. An initial tsunami warning was issued for Chile, Peru and Ecuador, BBC reports.
The earth shocks were felt in Santiago, 340 km of the epicenter, Reuters informs. According to the witnesses, the quake shook buildings, electricity and phone connections were cut in some districts of the capital.
