OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs presented “updated version” of Madrid Document. During July 25-26 working meeting Co-Chairs presented the modified version of Madrid Document.

The U.S. Co-Chair Matthew Bryza described the meeting as “productive and creative” in his interview to Liberty radio station.

“We carefully considered the views expressed by the sides since we presented the Madrid Document in November 2007. As directed by our three presidents in their joint declaration of July 10, 2009, we prepared an updated version of the Madrid Document,” Bryza stated.

The Co-Chairs thanked Armenian Former President Robert Kocharyan and Former Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian whose thoughts and efforts helped to lay the foundation for the Madrid Documents.

“We have now moved beyond that document under Armenia’s current leaders, President Serzh Sargsyan and Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandyan, who have helped elicit progress in tough but constructive negotiations over the past year. That is the reason we succeeded to issue Madrid Document. Now we have a chance to finalize the Basic Principles,” said Bryza, adding “Azerbaijan also had a constructive position, however President Ilham Aliyev and Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov protect their national interests as their Armenian counterparts do.”
