The Wall Street Journal called the Genocide Resolution vote in U.S. Congress “a game of brinkmanship between the White House and Ankara.”

The author refers to officials and lobbyists claiming that this years’ vote differs from others, as “Obama administration isn’t lobbying publicly to block the resolution.”

Thus, Turkey is put on alert “at the prospect that the country’s ally might rule against it on a neuralgic issue of history and identity.”

The source quotes Suat Kiniklioglu-Turkish Justice and Development party member as saying, “Turks find it very offensive to be equated with Nazis.”

Speaking about U.S.-Turkey relations, Kiniklioglu maintains that Ankara is cooperating with U.S. on Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Middle East peace process, Iran and Syria, saying these all areas would be affected if resolution passes.
