The present geopolitical situation not only enables, but also obliges Armenian and Serbia to develop their friendly relations, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan stated at his meeting with Serbian President Boris Tadic today.

The Armenia leader is sure that the reason for his Serbian counterpart’s visit to Armenia is his sincere desire to contribute to the development of bilateral relations.

President Sargsyan proposed strengthening bilateral spiritual and cultural ties, which will lay the foundations for an Armenian-Serbian dialogue in other fields.

The Serbian leader stated that the first results of the efforts will be seen during Serzh Sargsyan’s return visit to Serbia.

The sides also discussed prospects of transport and economic cooperation.

President Tadic pointed out Serbia plans to open its Embassy in Armenia soon, which will enable the Serbian Consul (whose residence is in Athens) to be immediately involved in the development of Armenian-Serbian relations. The Presidents also exchanged views on the problems in the Balkan and Caucasian regions and on the ways of resolving them. They agreed that regional conflicts can and must be settled by means of peaceful negotiations.
