Turkey recalled its Ambassador from Stockholm and cancelled Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s visit to Sweden scheduled on March 17, after the adoption of Armenian Genocide Resolution by Swedish Parliament.

Turkish Government made a statement after this decision. Swedish Parliament adopted the resolution due to domestic interests. It does not accord with the level of Turkey-Sweden relations and friendly ties. “We strongly discuss the decision, adopted by Swedish Parliament. It is ungrounded and contains lots of mistakes,” the statement reads.

As NEWS.am reported previously, majority of Swedish parliament voted in favor of resolution describing the mass killings of Armenians and other Christian minorities in modern Turkey by the end of World War I as genocide. A number of conservative MPs voted for the resolution, which resulted in motion passing by a casting vote-131 against 130.

A week ago U.S. House Committee on Foreign Affairs adopted Armenian Genocide Resolution. Ankara withdrew Turkish Ambassador Namik Tan to hold consultations.
