Armenia being dependant on Georgia will never recognize independence of South Ossetia and Abkhasia. Russia is clear about Armenia’s position, that did not however impact the bilateral relations any way, Head of Russian Military Forecast Center Anatoly Tsyganok told NEWS.am.

“Armenia has proved to be Russia’s key ally in Caucasus. If Armenia recognizes independence of South Ossetia and Abkhasia it will refuse the present situation in Nagorno-Karabakh. President of Armenia is the only one in the region, beyond President of Kazakhstan, who is in good relations with both Washington and Moscow,” Tsyganok declared.

The military expert said it matters to Russia that collective AAD system is based in Armenia, as “Russia might really face air attack threats from the South: Iran, Pakistan, and China.” As for possible influence of recently signed Azerbaijani-Russian gas contract on Nagorno-Karabakh peace process, Tsyganok stressed that “the contract is insignificant for Russia to interfere. The gas agreement only aims to bar the gas for Nabucco.”
