YEREVAN. – Head of the EU delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Trian Hristea said the Union respects sovereign decisions made by Armenia.

He said the EU continues to rest on the work that has been carried out for four years. The Union is looking for cooperation opportunities that will not contradict Armenia’s commitments, he said during the ceremony of laying of a foundation for Bagratashen border-crossing point.

Asked about the role of customs reforms carried out with the support of EU in the context of recent decision to join Customs Union, Hristea noted these programs are important.

“There are different systems of trade all over the world. Border-crossing points are necessary for interaction. I do not think this can interfere with movement of people and goods or seeking for external partners,” he added.

The construction of a new border-crossing point is being carried out with the funds of the European Investment Bank and EBRD as well as grants provided within the Eastern Neighborhood Policy program.
