“Many years ago we warned that one ‘fine’ day the authorities would yield the territories round Nagorno-Karabakh to Azerbaijan,” Aram Manukyan, a member of the Armenian National Congress (ANC), told NEWS.am, commenting on RA President Serzh Sargsyan’s interview with Al Watan (Syria).

Manukyan said that it is not a surprise for him. “It has not been a surprise for us. The process got under way in 1998, when, the by telling tales about independent Karabakh, the crafty authorities deceived the people,” Manukyan said. He added this applies to all the persons that helped realize the crafty plan. “It is clear for us that a change of power is the only way out. Let them think of the consequences of their actions,” the ANC member said.

In his interview with Al Watan the Armenian President stated that, despite Azerbaijan’s claims, the Armenian side does not settle or exploit the territories in question. When the Nagorno-Karabakh people is able to actually exercise its right to self-determination, and when practical security and development mechanisms are created, the return of the territories to Azerbaijan can be considered the Armenian side’s concession, provided, of course, the corridor between Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh remains open.
