Former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder supported Turkish Premier Erdogan’s proposal, saying there should be more Turkish schools in Germany.

“Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has put forward a good proposal. We need more German-Turkish schools in our country, because they not only help with integration but make Germany a little bit more international,” he wrote for Bild. Former German Chancellor mentioned that there are French, English, Greek schools in Turkey. He wonders why there can not be Turkish ones.

Earlier incumbent German Chancellor Angela Merkel opposed Erdogan’s proposal. According to her, opening of Turkish schools will hamper integration of ethnic minority into German society.
