The entire world must draw a conclusion from Turkish Premier Recep Erdogan’s statement that Turkey is not yet ready for ratifying the Armenian-Turkish protocols, Eduard Sharmazanov, Secretary of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) parliamentary faction told NEWS.am, commenting on the results of the Erdogan-Sargsyan meeting in Washington. He stressed that the Armenian leader once more ruled out the possibility of linking the Armenian-Turkish process to the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process.
“Erdogan’s words that a political atmosphere necessary for the ratification has not yet formed in Turkey suggest the following question: When will such an atmosphere be formed?” Sharmazanov said. He stressed that the Turkish side makes paradoxical statements: Premier Erdogan does not link the ratification of Armenian-Turkish protocols to the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process, whereas Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu rules out the ratification without progress in the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process. A foreign minister is not supposed to make such statements, Shamazanov said. He also offered Turkey the following advice: “Before interfering in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict you had better resolve the problems of your membership in the European Union, the Cyprus and Kurdish problems.” He stressed that the Armenian people will be become much more united and consolidated after the Armenian-Turkish process, evidence thereof is RA President Serzh Sargsyan’s statement dismissing any possibility of split between Armenia and the Armenian Diaspora.
