The death toll in Qinghai quake, north-eastern China reached 589, Xinhua agency reports referring to the Chinese Ministry of Civil Affairs.

According to preliminary data, over 8000 people were injured, 15.000 houses demolished and 100.000 epople affected by the quake.

Many people have to stay in the open area overnight in fear of aftershocks after a 7.1-magnitude quake toppled houses, cut off power and first-aid materials supply.

As reported previously, April 14, at 7:49 local time a 7.1 magnitude earthquake hit Qinghai Province, north-eastern China. According to China Earthquake Administration (CEA), the earthquake focus was 380 kilometers of Golmud, at the depth of 10 kilometers.
