Research on uranium field exploitation is currently carried out in Armenia, RA Minister of Nature Protection Aram Harutyunyan told journalists Monday. Asked about the degree of jeopardy to Armenia’s environment during its exploitation, the Minister said that presently research works are conducted jointly with Russian experts and the results of recent studies are assessed.

“Uranium might be hazardous only when enriched, thus it is early to speak about the threats,” he stated, adding that it will be possible to speak of threats only after the research works are completed and concrete program is drawn up.
