“Since the President has not yet voiced an address, we cannot know what particular decision he is going to make. I do not think that it would be right to make any suppositions now,” Press Secretary of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) Eduard Sharmazanov told NEWS.am.

As regard the international community’s possible reaction to Armenia’s suspending the Armenian-Turkish process or withdrawing its signature in the Protocols, he said: "I do not think it will be a sharp reaction because Armenia has shown its constructive position during this process. Now the international community must be discontented with Turkey’s, rather than Armenia's style. It is no coincidence that President Serzh Sargsyan stressed the following: “If Turkey protracts the process, we will suspend it unilaterally. Turkey is a major problem here,” he said.

“We do not intend to withdraw our signature, we have only proposed suspension of the process to the President. It is Turkey that is supposed to make the first step,” Sharmazanov said.

“We have always said we will ratify the Protocols after Turkey does. But the Turkish Premier says the situation is not right there or links the ratification to the Nagorno-Karabakh problem. I do not know what the President’s decision will be – whether he will accept the coalition’s proposal or not. I can only say about the coalition’s proposal: it is in our country’s interests and does not run counter to the spirit of the Protocols.”
