NATO will not change its policy on South Caucasian countries after the new Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen accession, NATO official representative James Appathurai told Trend News, August 4.

“Mr. Rasmussen has not announced any major changes. I do not suppose we should expect to see any great changes,” Appathurai said, adding that new Secretary General expressed his commitment to fundamental principles referring to NATO its partners including the South Caucasus.

“Rasmussen demonstrated commitment to partnership, autonomy and independence of sovereign states in that region,” NATO representative outlined.

According to him cooperation of South Caucasus countries with NATO is regarded as a step to European integration and maintenance of security and stability in the region.

On August 1, 2009 Former Danish Prime-Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen replaced Jaap de Hoop Scheffer.
