The U.S. Embassy in Georgia backs preliminary opinions of the international observers at Georgia’s local elections and noted considerable progress as compared with last elections, RIA Novosti reports.

However, the Embassy points out a number of violations in the regions. According to its statement, violations were registered in particular in Kakheti, Kvemo Kartli, Samegrelo and Armenian-populated Javakhk regions.

According to the preliminary results of the Central Election Commission of Georgia, the ruling United National Movement Party is heading the poll after the May 30 local elections.
