If Armenia’s ruling regime continues its inadequate foreign policy, power will be changed in the country, the Chairman of the ARF Dashnaktsutyun parliamentary faction Vahan Hovhannisyan told a press conference.
He also noted that he does not share defeatist sentiments on the inevitable ceding of Armenian-controlled territories or other concessions on the Karabakh peace process, as these decisions are not made by the authorities alone. “Ceding the territories or not – it depends on the will of the people, not of the authorities. As you know the Armenian people do not trust the leaders, therefore the ruling regime is not free to solve these issues alone,” Hovhannisyan added.
He stressed that the international community has a different opinion. Due to official Yerevan’s inadequate policy and readiness for concessions at the expense of national interests, world community is trying to press Armenia for desired results. “Thus, I forecast the international pressure on Armenia will increase. However, I say again, neither external pressure nor the authorities’ readiness for concessions can force the Armenian nation to agree to a compromise against its own interests. In such situations the way out is obvious,” he concluded.
