The reason for police violence against activists of the Armenian National Congress (ANC) is the Karabakh conflict, ANC coordinator Levon Zurabyan told journalists on Tuesday. He stated that the world community permitted the Armenian authorities to violate human rights and freedoms against concessions on Karabakh.  As a matter of fact the authorities are even ready to sacrifice Karabakh only to retain their power. RA President Serzh Sargsyan had an intention to make concessions. Otherwise he would have preferred social consolidation, namely, releasing political prisoners, reopening the A1+ TV channel, identifying those responsible for the March 1 events, etc.

But the President does not take a single step. On the contrary he is worsening the social-political crisis. According to the oppositionist, the President prefers pressure exerted by Turkey and Azerbaijan to a course of social consolidation to neutralize the world community’s pressure on Karabakh.
