There is no alternative to Karabakh conflict peaceful settlement and August 2008 Russian-Georgian war proves that use of force does not bring about the resolution of disagreements between the states, CSTO Secretary General Nikolai Bordyuzha stated during the August 6 Moscow-Yerevan space bridge.

“Only peaceful and mutually acceptable decision can provide peace in the Caucasus. Peaceful settlement is the major instrument of resolving any disagreement under the collective security treaty,” Bordyuzha said.

After Serzh Sargsyan came to power, Azerbaijan and Armenia contacts directed to the settlement of NKR conflict intensified. Secretary General hopes these meetings will produce concrete results.

Speaking about CSTO reaction if one of the member states is attacked by another country: “When the war is in imminent danger, CSTO takes Collective Security Treaty as a basis. Under one of the provisions the aggression against one of the states is regarded as aggression against each.”
