Relatives of the 80 life-termers submitted RA President Serzh Sargsyan and Public Council Chairman Vazgen Manukyan an appeal with a number of proposals on solution to the convicts’ complicated problems.

The sentenced for life is eligible for parole after 20 years of imprisonment, that under document is proposed to be replaced with 15.

“As a result of this legislative initiative, the verdicts of imprisonment for life will be less frequent and arbitrary. Also the opportunity of the 80 convicts cases’ reconsideration will emerge, that will enable to discover whether sentences to any convicts were excessive or not”, the message says.

Chairman of the first department of the RA Presidential Control Service Artsrun Torosyan received the delegation of the relatives of convicted in the presidential administration, who promised to present the document to RA President. The delegation was also received by the RA Chairman of the Public Council Vazgen Manukyan, who also promised to deal with this problem.
