Azerbaijani applicants displayed the poorest results at the recent 2009-2010 exams, Zerkalo.az reports.

According to the State Students Admission Commission 27.476 of 33.000 applicants attending 2009-2010 entrance exams entered universities. The plan of entering Institute of Higher Education is fulfilled for 94,65 %. The average score was 180 max.

According to Maleyka Abbaszadeh, Chairman of the State Students Admission Commission over 114.000 applicants have attended the exams this year, of which 66.621 graduates of 2009; 31.5% of scored 0-100 points, 22.6 % — 100-200 points, 18.2%- 200-300 points, 21.2% — 300-500 and 6.4% -500-700.

50% of the high achievers of Azeri graduates did not live up to school certificates at the exams. “Each year we have the same tendency- half of the high achievers are unable to score 100 points having A’s for those subjects”, Abbaszadeh said.

“Secondary school education cannot make an applicant ready for the exams, thus 70% of the upperclassmen have turn to take private lessons”, Malakhat Murshudli, Chairman of the Union of Independent Teachers of Azerbaijan stated.
