At the last stage, the Madrid Principles, the only official document on the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process, were the basis for negotiations, RA Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian stated following the Armenian-Azerbaijani-Russian presidential meeting in Saint Petersburg, Russia. “The negotiations have until now been held on this basis, and various proposals have been made,” the Minister said.

Commenting on the meeting, Nalbandian stressed that it was a constructive meeting. “Each new meeting give impetus to the talks, and the latest meetings on Russia’s initiative have proved especially effective and facilitated the convergence in points of view.” Russia, as OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair, plays an important role in the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process, and the two other mediators supported Moscow’s initiative to hold regular meetings. At the meeting, the sides agreed to continue negotiations on this present basis. The President instructed the Foreign Minister to maintain active contacts with the OSCE Minsk Group, Nalbandian said.
