Armenia should decline the Armenian-Turkish Protocols, regardless of Turkey’s actions, Giro Manoyan Director of the Hay Dat and Political Affairs Office, ARF Dashnaktsutyun Bureau, told journalist on June 23. As long as Armenia is involved in the reconciliation process time works against it, he said.

“When you are involved in the process, while all the possible initiatives are in opponents’ hands, it means you lost,” Manoyan said. He added that Turkey got what she wanted – signed Protocols which are currently frozen, as no negotiations are being held over them.  Manoyan noted that Turkey has a number of other treaties signed with various states, including Azerbaijan, Syria, Sweden, but it is yet unclear when they will be ratified. Thus, it is unclear when -if at all - the Armenian-Turkish Protocols will be ratified. So it is senseless to remain involved in the process of endless and hopeless expectations.

“Diplomatic relations should be established between Armenia and Turkey. It requires Ankara’s political will. Turkey should say it is ready for this step and will open the borders, the rest problems will be solved under international law. However, Turkey does not wish to change its hostile attitude towards Armenia,” Manoyan said.
