“We should not expect anything good from a diplomat who worked in Kosovo for many years if such one is appointed U.S. Co-Chair of the OSCE Minsk Group. In fact, this woman is the originator of independence of the fall-away region of Kosovo. How can we trust her?” the political scientist Araz Alizade stated with concern, commenting on the appointment of Tina Kaidanow as U.S. Co-Chair of the OSCE Minsk Group.

“The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is the only one where Russia and of the United States have common interests – a fact I am actually concerned over. I am very much concerned over whether the superpowers have devised a scheme against us or not? Independent Karabakh means defeat not only for Azerbaijan, but also for Turkey. So I think we should undertake anything as soon as possible before an irreversible process starts. The problem is that the powerful Armenian lobby in Russia and in the USA will not calm down until they tear Nagorno-Karabakh from Azerbaijan. So we must unite to meet the challenges,” Alizade said.

As to what position Turkey should adopt, Alizade said the United States do not take any interest in Turkey now. “Yes, that country was important for the USA during the cold war, but it has lost its importance now. So no one will take her opinion into account. Yes, they well return seven regions to us, but at the cost of Nagorno-Karabakh. If we are to thwart the schemes, we must prepare for war and present everybody with a fait accompli. I do not see any other way of resolving the problem,” he stressed.

Asked whether the superpowers will not punish Azerbaijan for resuming hostilities, which was the case with Serbia and Georgia, Alizade said it is those wishing to tear Nagorno-Karabakh from Azerbaijan who are talking about it. “Azerbaijan is not Georgia or Serbia. We are in a more favorable situation than they were. Russia will not benefit from punishing us — it fears destabilization in the South Caucasus. As regards the West, it considers its energy projects,” the expert said.
