Turkish statesmen are concerned over Hillary Clinton’s visit to the Memorial to Armenian Genocide victims. This event was labeled as shocking by Turkish press.

According to Hurriyet daily, the Deputy Chairman of Turkish Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Commission Mehmet Ceylan noted that in the light of frozen Armenian-Turkish Protocols, they expect for allies’ assistance to the process. In this regard, Clinton’s visit upset them, Ceylan noted.

Another member of the Foreign Affairs Commission, oppositional MP Deniz Bolukbas links Clinton’s visit to the Genocide memorial with wrong policy carried out by the Turkish authorities. He stressed that it is response to the ruling party’s breakdown regarding normalization of the Armenian-Turkish relations.

In his turn the MP of Republican People’s Party Sukru Elekdag recalled that earlier U.S. Congressmen had visited the memorial. However, Clinton is the first U.S. secretary to attend the memorial complex. According to him, henceforth it will be rather difficult to prevent from Genocide recognition especially due to Turkey’s stance on Iran.
