Russian Premier Vladimir Putin’s visit to Abkhazia is another provocation in the manner of Soviet regime, Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated August 12, 2009 commenting on Putin’s visit to Sukhumi, GHN reports.

“Being at the back and ideologist of the 2008 August war Vladimir Putin visited Sukhumi on the anniversary of concluded ceasefire agreement” the statement outlines, terming Putin’s visit a planned and purposeful provocation.

“This visit is an absolutely illegitimate violation of all international law provisions”, Georgian Foreign Ministry stated.

Georgian authorities expressed a protest against “Russia’s another attempt of escalation, seeking to destabilize the situation in the Caucasus”, challenging the international community to exert pressure on Russia to respect international principles and law and fulfill August 12, 2008 agreement.
