Warlike statements by the Azerbaijani President are mere political rhetoric, Director of the Caucasus Institute and political scientist Alexander Iskandaryan stated at the July 14 press conference. According to him, Azerbaijan’s stance is more complicated than is presented.

“Azerbaijan realizes that is unable to begin a war. The bellicose statements and the frequent skirmishes in the line of contact pursue clear dynamics.  As soon as a major event takes place, for instance, the trilateral meeting in St. Petersburg, or March 1 events, Azerbaijan immediately gives a peculiar response.”

According to the expert, this can be regarded as a serious threat to the outbreak of hostilities.

“Azerbaijan is not in a position to unleash a war, adding in his everyday speeches Aliyev forgets certain important points, namely the one on the interim status of Nagorno-Karabakh,” he said.
