Today Georgia officially secedes from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). Nonetheless, it remains a party to 75 multilateral agreements within CIS framework. The enrolment in treaties is stipulated by the statute also for CIS non-member states.
The withdrawal was initiated by Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili on August 12, 2008 in protest at Russian military invasion to Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
