Positive progress has been observed in the Armenian-Russian relations, unlike earlier ambiguity conditioned by the policy carried out by new Armenian authorities, Giro Manoyan, head of the Hay Dat (Armenian Cause) office, ARF Dashnaktsutyun told the journalists on Friday.

Moscow’s intention to extend the terms of the Russian base’s deployment in Armenia testifies to intensification in bilateral relations. Manoyan finds difficult to speak of the reasons for such a hurry, as the terms expire in 2017. According to him, most likely Russia wanted to insure itself against the risks until the terms run out. “On the other hand, Russia balances military cooperation with Armenia and Azerbaijan, thus trying to maintain balance in the region and resolve the Karabakh conflict,” he said. However, the ARFD member considers region’s unipolarity dangerous. He believes that influence of U.S. and Europe are necessary for the regional stability.
