On August 16, Turkish President Abdullah Gul is arriving on an official visit to Azerbaijan.

President Gul and his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev will meet tete-a-tete followed by an enlarged meeting.

The Turkish President also intends to meet with Azerbaijani Prime Minister Artur Rasizade, Parliament Speaker Ogtay Asadov and Grand Mufti of the Muslims of the Caucasus Allahshukur Pashazade.

The sides will discuss key problems and regional developments. The delegation headed by Abdullah Gul also comprises Energy and Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz and other officials, Azerbaijani press reported referring to Haberturk.

As NEWS.am reported earlier, on the threshold of his visit, Abdullah Gul stated that Turkey wants the Karabakh conflict to be resolved in diplomatic and political ways, noting that Ankara will always support fraternal Baku. According to him, Armenia should solve the Karabakh issue to have normal relations in the region.

He is confident that the OSCE Minsk Group couldn’t achieve concrete results during 18 years. “We would like the Minsk Group to approach the solution of the problem, but now people call Minsk Group’s visits to the region “tourist trips”. Therefore we need to take new steps,” he said.
