Turkey will take over presidency of the UN Security Council on September 1, replacing permanent member Russia, Haberturk reported.

In 2009 Turkey was elected non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2 years and previously  undertook presidency in June, 2009.

Turkey’s presidency coincides with the 65th session of the UN General Assembly scheduled for September 20-22 at the UN headquarters in New York.

Interestingly, discussion of the anti-Armenian resolution “The situation in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan” proposed by Azerbaijan is scheduled for the period of Turkey’s presidency.
