The European Union (EU) has released a list of 4,000 air carriers that are obliged to reduce carbonic gas emissions by 2012. Otherwise, they will not have the right to fly through the European air space and land at European airports. The EU offers air carriers to conduct emission monitoring before January 1, 2010. A relevant law was adopted in Europe this January.

Armavia airlines (Armenia) is on this list as well. Mil Armenia and Blue Airways (allegedly Armenian airlines) are reportedly in the list.

Talking to NEWS.am, Nelly Cherchinyan, Press Secretary of the General Department of Civil Aviation at RA Government (GDCA) said that Mil Armenia and Blue Airways are not registered in Armenia as Armenian air carriers. She stated that Armavia meets all European standards. “We have no airline that would pollute the air. The information does not quadrate to the facts,” she said.

Armavia told NEWS.am that the EU-released list is an international requirement applied to all air carriers. “The aim of the warning is to promote gas emission reduction. No airline will have problems if they reduce emissions to a minimum.”

One hundred Russian airlines, including Aeroflot, are on the list, along with U.S. and European airlines, such as Lufthansa (Germany), Alitalia (Italy), Quantas (Spain) and KLM (French-Dutch airline).
