Amid the regional developments over the last few months official Yerevan has made some steps to consolidate the Armenian positions in the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process, Mkrtich Minasyan, an MP of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), told a press conference.

As to Azerbaijan’s attempts to bring the Nagorno-Karabakh problem out of the OSCE Minsk Group and get it put on the U.N. agenda, Minasyan said: “The fact that Baku withdrew its resolution from the agenda of the 64th session of the U.N. General Assembly shows that the U.N. regulations are in no better state. We are not the only ones holding this opinion. A few years ago the international community discussed the issue of revising the U.N. regulations and implementing legal and organizational reforms.” According to him, Azerbaijan withdrew the resolution under “reasonable forces’” pressure. He also believes that the resolution will not be discussed at the 65th session of the U.N. General Assembly. The OSCE Minsk Group has proved its worth, Minasyan said.

The political scientist Hamayak Hovhannisyan, who participated in the press conference, disagreed with Minasyan. “If the resolution was only withdrawn, but not removed from the agenda, it means it may be discussed in the future,” he said. The RPA members are optimists, Hovhannisyan said. According to the realist Hovhannisyan, the Armenian authorities are now facing serious domestic problems. “Our independent state’s history proves that we prove losers when the international community takes an intense interest in Armenia,” he said.

On September 9, Azerbaijan withdrew its resolution on occupied territories of Azerbaijan.
